1 cup warm milk (250ml)

2 cups sugar for syrup
2 cups water for syrup
1 tsp lemon juice for syrup

Mix 2 cups semolina with 2/3 cup coconut, 16g vanilla, a pinch of salt, and 2 tsp baking powder in a bowl.

Add 2/3 cup melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix well to wet all of the semolina.

In a separate pot, heat 1 cup of warm milk until it boils for 1 minute.

Pour the hot milk into the semolina mixture and mix until well combined.

Spread 2 tbsp of butter over the mixture.

Add almond kernels on top.

Bake at 200 degrees Celsius.

Prepare the syrup by boiling 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of water, and 1 tsp of lemon juice for 15 minutes to get a thick syrup.

Pour the warm syrup over the hot basbousa after baking.
