Cultural Context

Originating from Jamaica, Jerk Chicken is a dish steeped in the island's history, influenced by the Maroons—runaway slaves who developed a unique style of cooking using indigenous spices and methods. Traditionally cooked over pimento wood, the dish embodies the vibrant flavors of Caribbean cuisine. Today, Jerk Chicken has gained global popularity, often found at barbecues and Caribbean festivals, celebrated for its bold, spicy profile and smoky aroma.
