Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup French onion soup
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. 1Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2In a large skillet, sauté the chopped onion in a little oil over medium heat until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. 3In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, salt, pepper, and thyme. Add the cooled onion and garlic mixture to the bowl and mix until well combined.
  4. 4Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
  5. 5In a separate bowl, mix the beef broth and French onion soup together. Pour this mixture over the meatballs in the baking sheet.
  6. 6Cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  7. 7Remove the foil and sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the meatballs.
  8. 8Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. 9Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
