Cultural Context

No Knead White Bread emerged as a popular baking method in the early 2000s, credited to Jim Lahey. This technique allows for a simple, hands-off approach to bread-making, making it accessible for home bakers. Its cultural significance lies in its ability to produce artisan-style bread with minimal effort. Today, variations abound, with many bakers experimenting with different flours and add-ins, making it a beloved staple in kitchens worldwide.

1

Measure 450 g of all-purpose flour using a scale.

2

Add 2 teaspoons of instant yeast and 1 and 1/4 teaspoons of table salt to the flour and mix to combine.

3

Pour in 375 g of warm water and mix with the back of a spoon until no dry flour remains.

4

Cover the bowl and let the dough sit for 2 to 3 hours until it has doubled in size and is bubbly.

5

Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat up.

6

Flour the work surface and turn the dough out onto it, sprinkling a little flour on top.

7

Fold the dough onto itself to shape it into a ball and then turn it upside down onto parchment paper.

8

Score the top of the loaf with a knife to allow steam to escape during baking.

9

Cover the dough with a bowl to prevent it from drying out while the oven finishes preheating.

10

Remove the Dutch oven from the oven and place the dough with parchment paper inside it, then cover with the lid.

11

Bake in the oven for 30 minutes with the lid on.

12

After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

13

Remove the bread from the Dutch oven using the parchment paper and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.
