It became popular in America during the colonial period, often spiced with rum or bourbon for festive occasions. Today, eggnog is a staple during the holiday season, celebrated for its rich, creamy texture and warming spices, and is enjoyed in various forms around the world.

1/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 egg yolks
1/2 cup half-and-half
1 cup heavy cream
1

Add 1 cinnamon stick and 5 cloves to a pan.

2

Pour in 2 cups of whole milk.

3

Scald the milk until it reaches 212 degrees Fahrenheit, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

In a separate bowl, whisk together 6 egg yolks, 1/3 cup white sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt until ribbons form.

5

Once the milk is scalded, remove it from heat and let it cool slightly.
