1.5 to 2 inches thick ribeye steak
kosher salt
black pepper
2 tablespoons high smoke point oil
4 tablespoons (56 grams) unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic
1 bunch fresh thyme

Let the steak come to room temperature before cooking.

Pat the steak dry with a paper towel and season generously with kosher salt and black pepper.

Heat a medium to large-sized skillet over medium high heat with 2 tablespoons of high smoke point oil.

Once the oil is shimmering, add the steak to the pan and sear for 2 to 3 minutes on one side.

Flip the steak and sear the other side for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Add 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 2 cloves of lightly crushed garlic, and 1 bunch of fresh thyme to the pan.

Baste the steak with the melted butter for about a minute until the desired doneness is reached.

Remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for 5 to 8 minutes before cutting into it.
