granulated sugar

🥗Healthier: honey

💰Cheaper: brown sugar

Honey adds natural sweetness, while brown sugar provides a richer flavor.

fresh lemons

🥗Healthier: lemon juice

💰Cheaper: bottled lemon juice

Bottled lemon juice is more accessible and cost-effective.

sparkling water

🥗Healthier: club soda

💰Cheaper: tap water

Tap water can be used for a non-fizzy version.

1

Combine equal parts water and white granulated sugar in a saucepan.

2

Stir the mixture and bring it to a simmer.

3

Simmer for about 3 to 5 minutes or until the sugar dissolves completely.

4

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the simple syrup cool completely.

5

Juice fresh lemons using a lemon squeezer until you have about 1 cup of lemon juice, which takes about 5 to 6 medium to large lemons or 3 very large lemons.

6

Pour the lemon juice into a large pitcher using a strainer to remove pulp and seeds.

7

Add the cooled simple syrup to the pitcher.

8

Add about 8 to 9 cups of very cold water to the pitcher and stir well.

9

To make the lemonade pink, add a few drops of beet juice at a time until the desired pink hue is achieved, usually about half a teaspoon to 1 teaspoon.

10

Place the lemonade in the fridge for a few hours before serving.

11

Serve the lemonade with plenty of ice, a few slices of lemon, and a sprig or two of fresh mint.
