Start by making the crumb topping with a whole box of vanilla wafers.
Place the vanilla wafers in a Ziploc bag, remove the air, seal it, and crush them with a meat mallet.
Melt 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a saucepan.
Add 2 heaping tablespoons of granulated sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon to the crushed wafers and mix well.
Pour the melted butter into the mixture and combine until evenly distributed.
Cover the crumb mixture with an airtight cover and set aside.
Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with regular butter and preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, mix together 1 cup of sugar and 8 oz of softened cream cheese until smooth.
Add 4 large eggs, 1.5 cups of whole milk, 1 cup of sour cream, 1 cup of prepared vanilla pudding, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the bowl and mix until well combined.
Boil 1 pound of wide egg noodles in salted water until soft, then drain and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
Add the cooled noodles to the custard mixture and stir to combine.
Layer the crumb topping evenly over the noodle mixture in the baking dish.
Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until golden brown and set, covering with foil if it gets too dark.
Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
