French Croissant

Originating in Austria and perfected in France, the croissant is a symbol of French pastry culture. Traditionally enjoyed at breakfast, it embodies the art of lamination, where layers of dough and butter create its flaky texture. Today, croissants are enjoyed worldwide, with variations like chocolate or almond croissants becoming popular.
unsalted butter

Coconut oil is dairy-free and can provide a similar texture.

Whole wheat flour adds fiber, while bread flour can improve texture.
Mix flour, sugar, and salt in a bowl.
Dissolve yeast in warm water; let sit until frothy.
Combine yeast mixture with flour mixture; knead until smooth.
Chill dough for 30 minutes in the refrigerator.
Roll out chilled dough and layer with cold butter.
Fold dough into thirds; repeat rolling and folding process three times.
Wrap dough and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
Roll out dough to a large rectangle; cut into triangles.
Roll each triangle from the base to the tip to form croissants.
Place on baking sheets and let rise until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
Brush croissants with egg yolk for shine.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Cool on wire racks before serving.
