Gravy has roots in various cuisines, often made from meat drippings. It's a staple in many households, particularly in the United States and the UK, where it's served over meats and potatoes. Today, variations exist worldwide, from rich brown gravies to lighter sauces, adapting to local tastes and ingredients.
Heat 2 tablespoons of used oil in a pan until hot.
Add 2 tablespoons of flour to the hot oil and stir continuously.
Cook the flour until it reaches a darker color, stirring frequently for about 1 minute.
Add 1 cup of chicken broth slowly while constantly stirring the roux.
Check the thickness of the gravy; it should sit on the back of a butter knife without falling too much.
Taste the gravy for flavor and adjust seasoning as needed.
If the gravy is too watery, let it cook down on the stove for a few more minutes.
