Traditionally filled with various ingredients like cheese, meat, or vegetables, it represents hospitality and is often served at gatherings and celebrations. Today, Börek has found its way into many cultures, with countless variations enjoyed around the world.

phyllo dough

Whole wheat adds fiber, while homemade can be more economical.
Thaw puff pastry for 10 to 15 minutes before use.
Roll out puff pastry thinly on a floured countertop to make a long rectangle.
Cut the rolled puff pastry into two pieces to create long strips.
Place white cheese filling in the middle of each strip.
Fold the puff pastry over the filling and seal it tightly.
Swirl the filled puff pastry into a round shape in a nonstick pan lined with baking paper, starting from the center.
Continue filling and shaping the rest of the puff pastry in the same manner.
Brush the top with an egg wash made from 1 egg yolk and 1 tbsp of milk.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (about 392°F).
Bake the borek until golden brown on top and bottom, about 40 minutes.
