Whole wheat flour adds fiber, while cornstarch can be a cost-effective thickener.

sugar

🥗Healthier: honey

💰Cheaper: brown sugar

Honey provides natural sweetness, while brown sugar is often less expensive.

butter

🥗Healthier: coconut oil

💰Cheaper: margarine

Coconut oil enhances flavor, while margarine is often more affordable.

1

Heat extra virgin coconut oil in a heavy bottom skillet on medium to medium-high heat.

2

Add all-purpose flour to the skillet and stir to parch for about 15-20 minutes until the raw flour taste is cooked out.

3

Break off a piece of Ceylon cinnamon stick and add it to the flour mixture.

4

In a separate bowl, mix evaporated milk, granulated sugar, and condensed milk until sugar is dissolved.

5

Once the flour mixture is ready, stream in the milk mixture gradually while on high heat to absorb properly.

6

Add soaked raisins and finely chopped maraschino cherries to the mixture and mix until thickened and it leaves the sides of the pan.

7

If the mixture is too crumbly, add a couple tablespoons of boiling hot water to make it fluffier and more held together.
