This dish is traditionally served during special occasions and gatherings, often prepared with love and shared among family and friends. The combination of flavors and textures reflects the rich culinary heritage of Algeria, blending influences from Berber, Arab, and Mediterranean cuisines. Today, Rechta is enjoyed not only in Algeria but also by those who appreciate North African cuisine around the world.

In a large pot, heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 4 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat.
Add chicken pieces and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
Add a large chopped onion (not minced) and sauté for another 2-3 minutes.
Add a handful of soaked chickpeas and mix well, cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, and salt to taste; mix well and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Pour in 1 liter of hot water, cover, and cook on medium heat.
Prepare the rechta noodles by opening the package and adding 5 tablespoons of oil to your hands before handling them.
Place the noodles on top of the sauce in the pot without pressing down, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, remove the cover and fluff the noodles with a wooden spoon.
Moisten the noodles with a glass of water mixed with salt, and steam the noodles three times, each time adding water and salt, and cooking for about 10 minutes each time.
After the second steaming, add vegetables like zucchini if desired, and continue steaming for the third time with sauce for flavor.
Once the chicken is cooked, optionally place it in an air fryer or oven to brown.
Add a tablespoon of butter to the noodles and mix gently until melted.
