BBQ Tofu

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu
2 tablespoons cornstarch or potato starch
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
2 tablespoons agave syrup
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Wrap the tofu in a clean towel and place something heavy on top for 15 minutes to remove excess water.

Cut the pressed tofu into thick stripes.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Coat the tofu stripes in cornstarch or potato starch.

Cover the tofu with olive oil, flip them over, and repeat on the other side.

Bake the tofu for 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.

In a bowl, add 3 tablespoons of ketchup, 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke (optional), 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika (optional), 1 tablespoon of agave syrup, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil. Whisk until well combined.

Remove the tofu from the oven and cover one side with barbecue sauce.

Flip the tofu and add barbecue sauce to the other side, using only half of the sauce.

Bake the tofu for another 5-7 minutes.

Cover the baked tofu with the remaining barbecue sauce.
