Instructions
- 1Soak bacalhau in water for 24-48 hours, changing water regularly to remove salt.
- 2Boil the soaked bacalhau in fresh water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
- 3Drain the bacalhau and let it cool, then flake it into large pieces, removing any skin and bones.
- 4Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds, then fry in olive oil until golden and crispy.
- 5In a pan, sauté onions and garlic in olive oil until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- 6Add the flaked bacalhau to the onion mixture and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring gently.
- 7In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, milk, eggs, black pepper, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
- 8Layer half of the fried potatoes in a baking dish, followed by the bacalhau mixture, then the remaining potatoes on top.
- 9Pour the cream mixture evenly over the layered ingredients.
- 10Sprinkle cheese on top and dot with butter.
- 11Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F until golden and bubbling, about 30-40 minutes.
- 12Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

- 9Cook for an additional 5 minutes to heat through, then remove from heat.
- 10Garnish with fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges.
