Combine the buttermilk and baking soda in a bowl and stir until well incorporated.
Set the buttermilk mixture aside.
In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs.
Gradually add the melted butter while beating the eggs.
Add the buttermilk and baking soda mixture to the egg and butter mixture and mix well.
Gradually add the sugar to the mixture.
Add cornmeal to the mixture and stir until it thickens.
Gradually add all-purpose flour and stir until combined.
Add whole kernel corn (optional) and stir one last time.
Grease a baking pan with oil.
Transfer the mixture to the greased baking pan and distribute evenly.
Preheat the oven before placing the pan inside.
Bake in the oven until done.
