Start with three cake tiers: one 4 inches round, one 6 inches round, and one 8 inches round.
Assemble each cake tier on a cake board of the same diameter and refrigerate them to make handling easier.
Remove the circle from the center of the cake board before assembling and icing the individual cake tiers.
Pipe a little bit of buttercream directly onto the cake base.
Place the bottom tier onto the cake base, ensuring it is centered.
Insert four bubble tea straws directly into the bottom cake tier, positioning them equidistant from each other to form a square.
Cut the straws flush with the height of the cake tier by gently lifting the straw and cutting straight across where icing begins to show.
Place the second tier directly on top of the bottom tier, ensuring it is centered.
Insert three bubble tea straws into the second cake tier, forming a triangle shape around the center of the tier.
Cut the straws flush with the height of the second cake tier by gently lifting and cutting as before.
Insert the pointed end of the wooden dowel through the center of the entire cake, pushing it down through the thickness of the cake base to lock it in place.
Use measuring tape to ensure the height of the cake tier will conceal the wooden dowel, cutting about two inches off the top of the dowel with clean gardening shears if necessary.
Lower the top tier onto the cake, ensuring it is centered.
Clean up the edges and pipe borders around the bottom edge of each tier to dress it up.
Place the stacked cake in the refrigerator to set completely, making it easier to transport.
