Warm a bowl with hot water to prepare for the yeast mixture.

Measure out 1 1/2 cups of warm water and pour it into the warmed bowl.

Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the warm water and stir to activate the yeast.

Measure out 6 3/4 teaspoons of active dry yeast and add it to the water and sugar mixture.

Cover the bowl with a cloth and place it in the oven with the light on to let the yeast rise for about 10 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 16 cups of all-purpose flour and 8 teaspoons of salt.

Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and add it to the flour mixture along with the yeast mixture and 5 1/2 cups of warm water.
