Rinse basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
In a pot, bring water to a boil and add salt.
Add the soaked rice to the boiling water and cook until al dente, about 5-7 minutes.
Drain the rice and set aside.
In a separate pan, melt butter over medium heat.
Sauté finely chopped onion until golden brown, about 5 minutes.
Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Stir in saffron dissolved in a tablespoon of warm water, along with cardamom and turmeric.
Layer the drained rice into the pan with the saffron mixture and gently mix.
Cover the pot with a lid and steam the rice on low heat for 20-25 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
In the last 5 minutes, add barberries and nuts on top of the rice for garnish.
Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
