Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2-4 tbsp cold water

Instructions

  1. 1In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, powdered sugar, and salt.
  2. 2Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. 3In a small bowl, whisk the egg yolk and add it to the flour mixture. Mix until combined.
  4. 4Gradually add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.
  5. 5Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. 6Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. 7On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
  8. 8Transfer the rolled dough to a tart pan or pie dish, pressing it into the edges. Trim any excess dough.
  9. 9Prick the bottom of the pastry with a fork to prevent bubbling during baking.
  10. 10Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
  11. 11Remove from the oven and let it cool before filling with your desired filling.
