While variations exist across Europe, the Polish version is particularly beloved for its hearty and satisfying nature, often accompanied by potatoes or dumplings.

Place the beef flank steak in a Ziploc bag and pound it thinly.
Brush the pounded steak with mustard.
Arrange the steak pieces on a plate.
Place one piece of bacon on each piece of meat.
Add wedges of onion and half of a cornichon to each piece.
Roll the steak tightly and secure with a toothpick.
Heat a few tablespoons of olive oil in a high-sided frying pan.
Fry the rolls on each side until browned.
Add vegetable stock to the pan and cover.
Simmer for around 25 minutes, flipping halfway through for another 20-25 minutes until tender.
Remove the rolls from the sauce and place them in a serving dish.
In a glass, mix water, heavy cream, tomato paste, and flour until well combined.
Add the mixture to the stock, season with salt and pepper, and simmer while stirring until thickened.
Remove the toothpicks from the rolls and cover them with the sauce.
