The Old Fashioned cocktail originated in the early 19th century, evolving from earlier drinks that combined spirits with sugar and bitters. It embodies the spirit of classic American cocktail culture, often associated with the sophistication of the Prohibition era. 1

Start by melting 100 g of butter in a pot until it bubbles.

2

Continue heating the butter until it turns brown and develops a nutty smell.

3

Add 20 g of cacao nibs to the brown butter and mix.

4

Let the mixture cool before adding it to the whiskey to avoid splashing.

5

Pour 500 ml of whiskey into an open-top container.

6

Add the cooled brown butter and cacao mixture to the whiskey.

7

Let the mixture sit for 8 to 24 hours before moving it to the freezer.

8

After resting, remove the solidified fat from the top of the whiskey.

9

Make a small hole in the solidified fat and pour the whiskey through a coffee filter to strain out solids.

10

Measure out 450 ml of the brown butter and cacao washed bourbon and 50 ml of deer gum syrup.

11

Add 10 dashes of Angister bitters and 90 ml of water to the mixture.

12

Stir to combine the ingredients and transfer into a bottle for storage in the freezer.

13

When ready to serve, pour the mixture over ice.
