Braised Pork Bento (New Year's Version)
For the cream cheese datemaki: Combine all ingredients except cream cheese in a blender and mix well. Heat a frying pan, grease it, pour in the mixture, cover with aluminum foil, and steam on low heat for about 8 minutes. Once browned, flip and cook for 1 more minute. Place on a bamboo mat with the browned side up, cut into 1cm wide slices, and roll with cream cheese sticks.
For the garlic herb shrimp: Clean the shrimp and pat dry. Season with herb salt and pepper. Heat a frying pan, add shrimp without oil, sprinkle with coarse garlic, and cook for 7 minutes on each side.
For the microwave chicken chashu: Heat spinach and cut carrots in the microwave for 1.5 minutes, then soak in water to remove bitterness. Poke holes in the chicken and cut thick parts. Season with sake, place spinach and carrots inside, roll up, and secure with toothpicks. Combine marinade ingredients in a heatproof bowl, add chicken, cover with plastic wrap, and microwave at 600W for 4 minutes. Flip and microwave for another 3 minutes, then let sit for over 5 minutes. Store in a bag with marinade and boiled eggs for overnight.
For the Western-style sweet potato kinton: Peel and cut sweet potatoes into 5mm thick slices, soak in water. Place in a heatproof bowl, cover, and microwave at 600W for about 8 minutes. Mash and mix in sugar, butter, heavy cream, and syrup from sweet chestnuts, adjusting sweetness and texture to preference.
For the mixed nuts gomame: Spread gomame on a heatproof plate and microwave for 1 minute without cover. Mix sauce ingredients. In a frying pan, add sugar and heat until bubbling, then add sauce and butter, stirring on low heat until thickened. Add gomame and mixed nuts, and mix well.
