Warm up milk slightly before using.
Add 1/4 cup Demerara sugar and 2 tablespoons honey to the milk and whisk until melted.
Add 1 tablespoon dry active yeast to the mixture and let it bloom for about 15 minutes.
In a bowl, combine 3.5 cups of all-purpose flour and 3/4 tablespoons of salt, then mix.
Add melted butter to the flour mixture and incorporate it with hands.
Add the milk and yeast mixture gradually, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the dough for about 4-5 minutes until smooth, adding water if needed.
Divide the dough into three equal pieces and roll each into a long strand.
Braid the three strands together to form a loaf.
Place the braided loaf on a lined baking sheet and cover it to proof for 30-40 minutes until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake the bread for 27 minutes or until golden brown.
Brush melted butter on the baked bread for a glossy finish.
