Add sugar to a bowl.
Add yeast and warm water to the bowl with sugar and mix together. Set aside for a few minutes to activate the yeast.
Melt the butter and set aside to cool.
Add flour and salt to the bowl with the activated yeast mixture.
Add the melted butter to the bowl and mix until a soft, elastic dough forms.
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 to 15 minutes until smooth and bouncy.
Place the kneaded dough back in the bowl, cover it, and let it proof for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Remove the dough from the bowl and turn it out onto the work surface.
Divide the dough into three equal pieces and shape each into a long log.
Braid the three pieces together, sealing the ends together.
Place the braided dough on an oiled baking tray and rub the outside with oil.
Let the braided dough proof in a warm place for another 30 minutes until doubled in size.
Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
Bake the bread for about 1 hour until golden brown.
Brush the warm bread with remaining melted butter.
