Sloppy Joes

AmericanUSmain
30 min
easy
4 servings
Servings4
1.25 pounds ground beef (mix of 85/15 Chuck and 80/20 Chuck)
2 cups diced onions
1 cup ketchup (Hunt's preferred)
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
water (as needed)
potato rolls (for serving)
1

Brown 1.25 pounds of ground beef in a 12-inch cast iron skillet until cooked through, draining off most of the grease.

2

Add 2 cups of diced onions to the skillet with the ground beef and turn the heat to medium-high.

3

Saute the onions with the beef for about 15 minutes until they start to turn translucent.

4

Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of black pepper and 1 teaspoon of garlic powder over the mixture and stir.

5

Add 1 cup of ketchup to the skillet, mixing well with the beef and onions.

6

If the mixture looks too dry, add water to keep it moist and allow the beef to absorb the flavors.

7

Let the mixture simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reduces and thickens.

8

Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning as necessary, adding more garlic powder if desired.

9

Prepare potato rolls by toasting them lightly before serving.

10

Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted potato rolls and serve.
