16 ounces white mushrooms sliced thin
2 teaspoons canola oil
½ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 onion diced small
1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
1 8oz can tomato sauce
¼ cup low sodium ketchup
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon maple sugar
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
10 ounces ground turkey thighs
4 whole wheat hamburger buns

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.

Drain excess fat from the skillet.

Add chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Stir in ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Reduce heat to low and simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

While the mixture simmers, toast the hamburger buns if desired.

Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the bottom half of each bun.

Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
