Add 1.5 cups of warm milk to a bowl.
Add 0.5 tablespoons of dry yeast, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of flour to the milk and mix.
Let the mixture stand at room temperature for 10 minutes until foamy.
Add the yeast mixture to a bowl with 0.25 cups of melted butter, 1 egg, 0.25 cups of sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
Add 4 cups of flour and knead the dough for about 5 minutes until not sticky.
Cover the dough and let it rest at room temperature for about 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
Prepare the poppy seed filling by adding 1.5 cups of poppy seeds to 2 cups of boiling water and let it stand for 10 minutes before draining.
Rinse the poppy seeds in cold water and drain completely.
Transfer the poppy seeds to a medium-sized pot and add 2/3 can of condensed milk.
Heat the mixture on medium heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes until thicker.
Once the dough has doubled in size, dust flour on the working area and stretch the dough into a rectangle about 1/5 of an inch thick.
Spread the poppy seed filling evenly over the dough at room temperature.
Carefully roll the dough over itself and cut off the edges, then cut into pieces about 2 inches long.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat and transfer the rolls to the tray.
Cover the rolls and let them rest for 15 minutes.
Make an egg wash by mixing 1 egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush it generously on top of the rolls.
Bake in the oven at 375°F for 20 to 30 minutes.
