Whole wheat flour increases fiber content.
Activate the yeast by adding it to the lukewarm milk and water mixture and let it sit for about five minutes.
Mix the dry ingredients: add sugar and salt to the flour and mix for about a minute.
Add the activated yeast mixture to the flour mixture and mix using a spatula to form a dough.
Knead the dough by hand until it is no longer sticky, about 7 minutes.
Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough in it, and cover it to let it rest for about 45 minutes until it doubles in size.
Punch down the dough to remove air, then roll it to form a log shape and cut it into smaller pieces.
Twist the dough pieces by hand to create the doughnut shape, sealing the edges well.
Place the twisted dough on parchment paper and let it rest for 20 minutes to double in size again.
Heat oil over medium heat for about five minutes, testing readiness with a stick for bubbles.
Fry the doughnuts in the oil until they are nicely brown on the outside.
