1 tbsp. sugar
2 eggs
1 cup milk
¼ cup melted butter
Bacon grease or vegetable oil for frying
¼ cup butter
2 cups seedless red grapes, sliced in half
1 ½ cups maple syrup
½ tsp. vanilla extract
Squeeze of lemon

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt and sugar.

In a separate bowl, mix the eggs, milk and melted butter, then pour into the dry ingredients.

Mix the batter well and set aside.

Heat a cast iron skillet over medium high heat and add enough bacon grease or vegetable oil just to coat the bottom.

Ladle the batter into the skillet to form the johnnycakes.

When you see small bubbles rising and the edges are crisp, flip them over and cook until golden brown.

Hold the johnnycakes on a baking sheet in the oven to stay warm.

To make the Grape Maple Syrup, heat a skillet over medium high heat and add the butter.

Once it has melted and is foamy, add the grapes and saute until the grapes just start to break down, about 5 minutes.
