Chinese Pork Dumplings

Cultural Context

Chinese pork dumplings, known as Jiaozi, have a rich history dating back to the Han Dynasty. Traditionally served during Lunar New Year, they symbolize wealth and prosperity due to their shape resembling ancient Chinese gold ingots. Today, dumplings are enjoyed year-round and have inspired countless variations across the globe, often filled with different meats or vegetables and served with various dipping sauces.

1/2 Cup of Water
1 pack of Dumpling Wrapper

Wash your leek and mince it.

Mince garlic and ginger to be the same size.

In a bowl, add 1 lb of ground pork and season it with 3 tbsp of soy sauce and 1 tbsp of Shao Xing cooking wine. Lastly add 2 tbsp of salt and 1 tbsp of white pepper.

Add the minced ginger, garlic, and leek into the same bowl and mix everything together.

Add 1/2 cup of water to create a mushy texture almost like a paste. You want all the ingredients to stick together.

Scoop about 1 tbsp sized ball and place in the middle of the dumpling wrapper.

Wet your finger and draw a circle around the outer edge of the wrapper (the water acts as glue).

Fold it however you like or copy our method.

On medium-high heat, boil 1/3 cup of water in a pan and add the dumplings. Cook for 7 minutes before frying.

Once the water evaporates, add a little bit of oil to fry the dumpling for a crispy outer layer.

Remove once the dumplings are lightly browned and ENJOY!
