Fresh tomatoes can be used for a fresher taste, while crushed tomatoes are often less expensive.
Microwave 1 cup of water for about 15 seconds until lukewarm.
Add active yeast to the lukewarm water and whisk together.
Optionally add 1 teaspoon of date powder and let sit for 15 minutes to activate yeast.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine 2.5 cups of whole wheat flour and ground flax meal (optional).
Once the yeast is foamy, add it to the flour mixture along with 1 tablespoon of applesauce.
Mix until combined into a ball of dough, adding more flour if too wet.
Knead the dough until it is not sticking to your hands and form it into a ball.
Cover the dough with plastic wrap or a towel and let it rise for 1 hour.
Chop various pizza toppings: green bell pepper, mushrooms, red onion, zucchini, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli.
Rinse olives to reduce saltiness and chop them.
In a bowl, combine 1 can of no-salt-added tomato sauce, minced garlic, crushed red chili pepper, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Whisk together to make pizza sauce.
