Traditionally served during breakfast or as a snack, it reflects the fusion of indigenous, African, and Indian influences in Guyanese cuisine. Today, Fried Bake has found its way into the hearts and kitchens of many Caribbean communities and beyond, celebrated for its simplicity and versatility.

Almond milk reduces calories while adding a nutty taste.
In a mixing bowl, add 2 cups of all-purpose flour.
Add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar to the flour.
Add 1 tablespoon of baking powder to the mixture.
Mix the dry ingredients together using your hands.
Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter (room temperature) to the mixture and mix it in.
Pour in 1/2 cup of milk gradually while mixing, kneading the dough until it's soft but not sticky.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable oil to the dough and knead until smooth.
Cover the dough with a damp paper towel or cling wrap and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Divide the dough into 7 equal pieces and shape them into circles.
Lightly flour the surface and a rolling pin, then roll each piece into a circle.
Heat 2 cups of vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat.
Once the oil is hot, carefully add the rolled dough pieces to the oil.
Fry the dough until they puff up and turn light brown, turning them after a few seconds.
If you prefer them crispy, let them fry until golden brown but not burnt.
Remove the fried bakes from the oil and drain on paper towels.
