Sunflower seeds are often cheaper and nut-free.
Cut the peeled ginger into very thin slices.
Lay down the slices in an overlapping row to chop into strips.
Place the ginger onto a plate.
Cut off the green parts of the green onions and set aside.
Cut the rest of the green onions into sections.
Cut the green onions lengthwise into thin strips.
Turn the heat setting to low and add the ginger to the pan.
Add the white parts of the green onion to the pan with the ginger and stir.
When the ginger and white parts of the green onion smell fragrant, add the rest of the green onion to the pan and stir.
Add 12 oz of water to the pan.
Lower the heat setting to medium and stir everything together.
Prepare a cornstarch slurry by mixing 1 tsp of cornstarch with 1 tbsp of water.
Turn the heat to high to help the sauce reduce and thicken, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
If a thicker sauce is desired, prepare an additional slurry with 0.5 tsp of cornstarch and 0.5 tbsp of water.
Turn off the heat and give the sauce a final stir before setting it aside to check on the spaghetti.
Drain the water from the spaghetti.
