Placinte de post, or fasting pies, are a traditional Romanian dish often enjoyed during Lent or other fasting periods. These savory pastries celebrate the use of simple, plant-based ingredients, reflecting the culinary practices of the Orthodox Christian community. Today, they are popular not only for their cultural significance but also as a delicious vegan option enjoyed year-round.

Cabbage is often less expensive and adds bulk.
Mix 500 g flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 25 g fresh yeast, and 100 g sugar in a bowl.
Add the zest of one lemon and 50 ml oil to the mixture.
Gradually add 300 ml warm almond milk and mix.
Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth.
Place the dough in a bowl greased with a little oil and cover it to let it double in volume.
Grease the work surface with a little oil and divide the dough into 6 equal parts (or 12 for smaller sizes).
Shape each part into a ball and cover them.
Roll out one ball into a round shape.
Make decorative cuts with a stick and add plum jam in the center.
Fold the dough over the filling and seal it as demonstrated.
Place the filled pies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Cover the pies and let them double in volume again.
Bake in the oven at 180°C for about 20 minutes.
Brush the baked pies with a syrup made from sugar and water.
