Boston Baked Beans

1 440g / 16oz tin of baked beans
1 small onion - finely diced
4 bacon slices - finely sliced
2 garlic cloves - finely sliced
salt & pepper
1 teaspoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Hot buttered toast
grated cheese
hot sauce
extra Worcestershire sauce

Melt the butter & oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add the onion & bacon, & fry until golden brown.

Add the garlic & continuing frying for a further 1-2 minutes. Do not let the garlic burn or it will taste bitter.

Add the baked beans, black pepper, salt, maple syrup, soft brown sugar, mustard, & Worcestershire sauce, & mix together well.

Bring beans to the boil & simmer gently for 4-5 minutes or until the sauce is as thick as you like it.

Serve the beans on hot buttered toast with some grated cheese on top, a dash of hot sauce & lots of Worcestershire sauce.
