Welcome to the hillbilly kitchen; today we're making an onion hamburger skillet casserole.
Use between 1 and 2 pounds of ground beef; you can substitute with ground turkey or chicken if desired.
Chop 2.5 medium onions thinly, almost shaved, and add them to the skillet.
You don't need to cook the onions separately; they can be cooked with the ground beef.
Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and about 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce (optional).
Add about 0.5 teaspoon of garlic powder or fresh garlic (optional).
Cook the ground beef and onions together until the onions are translucent and the beef is browned.
If desired, you can remove some grease from the skillet after cooking the beef and onions.
Add 3 cups of water or broth to the skillet; stir well to dissolve any bouillon if used.
Bring the mixture to a boil.
Add 1 cup of long grain rice or 2 cups of Minute Rice to the boiling mixture.
If using, add 1 cup of peas or other vegetables at this stage.
Cover the skillet with a lid, turn the heat down to low, and let it simmer for 20 minutes without lifting the lid.
After 20 minutes, check if the rice is cooked; if desired, stir in sour cream or cream of mushroom soup for creaminess.
Top with fried onions if you like before serving.
