Homemade caramel can be made with pantry staples.
Grab a stand mixer and add about half the flour.
Add salt and instant yeast to the flour and mix.
Add vanilla and crack a couple of eggs into the mixture.
Melt butter and milk together, then let it cool to room temperature.
With the mixer running on low, slowly incorporate the melted butter and milk mixture into the flour mixture.
Once combined, add the rest of the flour and mix until a dough ball forms.
Increase the mixer speed and let it mix for about 5 minutes until the dough is elastic.
Oil a bowl and place the dough ball inside, covering it to proof.
While the dough is proofing, make the caramel sauce by melting butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and salt on an induction burner until glossy and thick.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and flour a surface.
Turn the dough out onto the floured surface and roll it into a large rectangle.
Brush the rectangle with melted butter.
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl, then sprinkle it over the buttered dough.
Roll the dough tightly into a jelly roll shape and cut into pieces.
Prepare a baking pan for the sticky buns with the caramel sauce at the bottom.
