Prep an 8x8 tray by lining it with parchment paper and brushing it with butter to hold the paper down.
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine 3.5 cups of sweetened condensed milk and 4 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Add 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter and a pinch of salt to the bowl.
Microwave the mixture for 2 minutes in 30-second increments, stirring in between until fully melted and combined.
Once melted, stir in 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract.
Pour the chocolate mixture into the prepared tray and smooth the top with an offset spatula.
Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours, preferably overnight, until set.
Once set, use the parchment overhang to lift the fudge out of the tray.
Cut the fudge into squares using a bench scraper or knife.
