The cake is often enjoyed with a dusting of powdered sugar, and its dense, fudgy texture makes it a perfect ending to a meal. Today, Torta Caprese is beloved not only in Italy but also around the world, often served at special occasions and gatherings.

Process 8 oz (230g) almonds until ground with still some chunky remaining pieces.
Melt ⅔ cup (150g) butter and 7 oz (200g) semisweet chocolate over a bain-marie and let cool.
Separate 4 eggs into whites and yolks.
Add ¼ tsp (1g) salt and ½ cup (100g) sugar to the yolks and mix until thick and pale yellow colored.
Add the melted chocolate and ground almonds to the yolk mixture and mix well.
Whip the egg whites until foamy, then gradually add ¼ cup (50g) sugar while continuing to whip until stiff peaks form.
Gradually incorporate the whipped egg whites into the chocolate mixture.
Pour the batter into an 8 or 9 inch (20-23cm) springform pan, greased and lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 350F (180C) for 30-40 minutes.
Let the cake cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar and serving with whipped cream and berries.
