1/2 cup masur dal
1/2 cup chana dal
1 onion, finely sliced
1 tomato, sliced
2-3 green chilies
1 teaspoon red chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

2 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste
salt, to taste
4 tablespoons oil
1 hardboiled egg, chopped
handful of chopped cilantro
1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper powder
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 tablespoon minced garlic
ginger, cut into julienne
dried red chili pieces
1/2 teaspoon red chili flakes

Soak 1/2 cup masur dal and 1/2 cup chana dal for about 10 minutes and rinse a few times.

Add the soaked dal to a cooking pot with 1 onion, 1 tomato, 2-3 green chilies, 1 teaspoon red chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, and 2 1/2 cups of water.

Cook on medium heat covered for about 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add 1 tablespoon ginger and garlic paste and salt to taste; mix well and continue cooking.

In a separate pan, heat 4 tablespoons of oil for tempering.

Add 1 tablespoon minced garlic, julienned ginger, dried red chili pieces, and 2-3 green chilies to the hot oil.

Chop 1 hardboiled egg and add it to the tempering along with a handful of chopped cilantro.

Mix in 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder, 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder, and 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder into the cooked dal.

Finally, add the tempering mixture to the dal and mix well.
