Start by gathering the ingredients: 1.5 sticks of softened butter, 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, 1 cup of light brown sugar, 1/4 cup of white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 whole egg, 1 egg yolk, 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda, 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, and 2 cups of chocolate chips. Optionally, you can add walnuts or pecans.
Brown the softened butter in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until it starts to brown and froth. Make sure it doesn't burn.
Once the butter is browned, pour in the oily part and add the granules from the bottom of the pot into a mixing bowl.
Add the white sugar to the bowl, followed by the light brown sugar. Blend them together well to avoid lumps.
Scrape down the bowl to ensure everything is mixed well. Then, add 1 whole egg and 1 egg yolk to the mixture, blending again.
Add 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract, scrape down the bowl again, and blend until mixed well.
In a separate bowl, mix together the 1.75 cups of all-purpose flour, 3/4 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to ensure even distribution.
Gradually spoon in the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed to avoid lumps.
Once the dough is combined, add in the 2 cups of chocolate chips and mix until evenly distributed.
Scoop small portions of dough onto a baking sheet, spacing them out. You can use a small scoop or a large tablespoon for this.
Bake the cookies in a preheated oven at 350°F for 10 to 11 minutes until they are golden brown.
Let the cookies cool slightly before enjoying them with ice cream or a glass of milk.
