Soak black beans overnight in water.
Boil the soaked black beans for about 1 hour until tender, avoiding overcooking to prevent mushiness.
Prepare garlic, onions, cilantro, and red bell pepper for seasoning.
Add the sautéed garlic and onion mixture to a large pot with olive oil to infuse the flavors.
Stir in tomato paste to thicken the mixture and enhance the flavor.
Add the squid to the pot, which changes the color of the mixture to black.
Season the mixture with black pepper, salt, oregano, minced onion, cilantro flakes, adobo seasoning, and garlic powder.
Add the boiled black beans to the pot before adding water.
Pour in enough water to cover the mixture and bring it to a boil.
Wash the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
Once the mixture is boiling, add 1 cup of rice to the pot.
Stir the rice into the mixture and let it come back to a boil.
Cover the pot and let it cook on low heat for 30 minutes until the rice absorbs the liquid and is tender.
