Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 3/4 cups of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of dry yeast, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt in a large bowl.
Add 1/4 cup of melted butter, 1 beaten egg, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to the mixture and mix well.
Slowly add 1 cup of warm milk to the mixture, mixing lightly until a sticky batter forms.
Transfer the batter to a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 2 hours.
After rising, add about 1 cup of flour to the dough and knead slightly to form a soft ball.
Cut the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each piece into a 12-inch long rope.
Shape each rope into a roll and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Cover the rolls with plastic wrap and let them set for 10 minutes.
Prepare the glaze by beating 1 egg with a little milk and 1/8 teaspoon of vanilla.
Brush the glaze over the rolls, then sprinkle with sanding sugar if desired.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 20 minutes, checking at 12 minutes for doneness.
