1

In a saucepan, combine 1/2 cup white sugar and 1/4 cup water over medium heat until the sugar melts and turns golden brown, stirring constantly.

2

Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a flan mold or individual ramekins, tilting to coat the bottom evenly.

3

In a mixing bowl, whisk together 5 eggs, 1 can evaporated milk, 1 can condensed milk, and 1 tsp vanilla until smooth.

4

Pour the milk mixture over the caramel in the mold.

5

Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill the baking dish with water halfway up the sides of the flan mold.

6

Bake in the preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50-60 minutes, or until the flan is set and a knife inserted comes out clean.

7

Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool to room temperature.

8

Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to chill completely.

9

To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it, then invert onto a plate, allowing the caramel to drizzle over the top.
