Cultural Context

Rotel Dip, a beloved American appetizer, originated in the 1970s, combining Velveeta cheese with Rotel tomatoes for a creamy, spicy dip. It's a staple at parties, game days, and family gatherings, often served with tortilla chips. This dish showcases the convenience of processed ingredients while remaining a crowd-pleaser, with many variations emerging across the country, including vegetarian adaptations.

1

In a large deep pot, add the ground beef, ground sausage, onion, and bell pepper.

2

Season with all purpose seasoning, complete seasoning, chili powder, and garlic powder- mix well until the meat is browned and fully cooked (drain the excess oil).

3

Add the Rotel, Velveeta, and Colby & Monterey Jack cheeses to the pot. Heat and stir on medium until the cheese is fully melted.

4

Add the heavy cream and stir well until it is fully incorporated into the cheese dip. Allow this to simmer on medium low for an additional 8-10 minutes while stirring (optional-stir in extra chopped cilantro).

5

Transfer to a serving dish and top with optional garnishes (Jalapeño, cilantro, and Roma tomatoes).

6

Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!
