Húskonzerv, or canned meat, is a staple in Hungarian households, often used for quick meals or during times of scarcity. Traditionally, it reflects a resourceful approach to food preservation, allowing families to store meat for extended periods. Today, it's commonly found in various forms across Europe, adapted to local tastes and preferences.

Frozen vegetables can be more affordable and have a longer shelf life.
Introduce the recipe for making canned meat with husband.
Prepare ingredients: bay leaves, salt, whole peppercorns, garlic, sterilized jars.
Use 1 kg of pork shoulder, cut into larger cubes.
Place 2-3 whole peppercorns and 1-2 bay leaves in the sterilized jars.
Add peeled garlic cloves to the jars.
Sprinkle some salt over the meat to season it.
Repeat adding whole peppercorns into the jars.
Wash the jars and lids thoroughly before sterilizing.
To sterilize the lids, boil them in water for 5 minutes, then place on a kitchen towel to dry.
For the jars, place them in a pot, cover with cold water, and heat gradually on the stove to avoid breaking them.
Boil the jars for 10-15 minutes, then turn them upside down on a kitchen towel to dry completely.
Alternatively, sterilize jars in the dishwasher, ensuring only jars and lids are included.
Place a cloth at the bottom of a large pot to prevent jars from clanking during boiling.
Fill the pot with cold water until it covers the jars up to the neck.
Cover and simmer for 5 hours on low heat, ensuring the water does not boil.
After 5 hours, let the jars cool down in the pot before removing them.
The meat will gel as it cools down.
Store in a cool place, and once opened, refrigerate.
