Canola oil is often cheaper and has a high smoke point.
Heat oil in a skillet over low to medium heat.
Add fresh chopped garlic to the skillet and fry until golden and crispy.
If desired, add dried chili pepper for a spicy version.
Once the garlic is golden, strain the oil from the garlic.
Add MSG and salt to the fried garlic and mix well.
Allow the fried garlic to cool before storing in a glass container.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 6 months.
