Originating in Detroit, this pizza style features a thick, rectangular crust with a crispy edge, often topped with cheese and sauce layered in a unique way. Traditionally served in a blue steel pan, it reflects the city's industrial roots. Today, Detroit-style pizza has gained popularity across the U.S. and beyond, with many pizzerias offering their own interpretations.

Start by combining warm water, a packet of yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar.
Wait about 15 minutes to see if the yeast foams up, indicating it's alive.
Add olive oil, salt, and bread flour to the yeast mixture.
Knead the dough with a dough hook until it forms a smooth, soft, and elastic dough.
Prepare a 10 by 14 inch Detroit pizza pan by drizzling olive oil and spreading it around with your fingers.
Place the dough in the center of the pan and stretch it into a rough rectangular shape, covering it with olive oil fingers.
Cover the dough and let it rise for about 1 to 1.5 hours until it doubles in size.
Prepare the pizza sauce by mixing tomato sauce with garlic powder and letting it simmer on medium-low for at least 15 minutes.
Slice pepperoni and grate or dice Monterey Jack and mild cheddar cheese.
Once the dough has risen, deflate it and stretch it to fit the pan, pushing it to the edges.
Add sliced pepperoni on top of the dough, then scatter the cheese cubes over the pepperoni, ensuring cheese covers the edges of the pan.
Ladle the pizza sauce over the cheese in three strips, as is traditional for Detroit-style pizza.
Add a few more slices of pepperoni on top for decoration before baking.
