Traditionally filled with chocolate or nuts, this rich, braided loaf symbolizes the blending of flavors and textures, making it a festive treat. Today, Babka has gained popularity beyond its origins, appearing in bakeries worldwide, often with creative fillings and toppings.

Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl.
Combine milk, sugar and butter and warm them up until lukewarm.
Add eggs and yeast to the mixture and whisk.
Add the liquid ingredients to the dry ones and mix until fully incorporated.
Transfer the dough to a floured surface, form a ball, and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let sit in a warm place for an hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the filling shortly before the dough has risen by melting chocolate and butter over a bain marie.
Sift the powdered sugar and cocoa, then add ground hazelnuts and melted chocolate to the mixture.
Weigh the risen dough and divide it into 2 pieces, each around 480 g.
Roll one piece of dough into a rectangle of 35 x 25 cm and cover with half of the filling. Roll it up gently and repeat with the second piece of dough and remaining filling.
Cut each log vertically in half, ensuring the seam is side down.
Transfer the shaped babka to a baking sheet and a round cake pan.
Brush with a mixture of egg yolk and cream and bake at 200 degrees Celsius for 35-40 minutes, covering with aluminum foil if it becomes too brown.
Let cool completely.
